Beauty Review: Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation

Reviewed by Jessica Kidner. With its luxurious packaging, it could be told from the onset that this was going to be an indulgent product.
The concept of the Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation is that it is in fact two products rolled into one.
It has a makeup effect, as well as a skincare effect.
The makeup effect is achieved through the added ingredients of smoothing fit oil, smoothing reflect fit powder, micromatic colour pigment, and dual optimising powder. The result of these ingredients is a foundation that feels velvety smooth when applying, and glides over the skin very easily. It also gives a semi-matte finish by absorbing the skins excess oil, and minimizing pores. It is perfect for camouflaging problem spots such as th e T-zone (oiliness that often occurs across the forehead, and down the bridge of the nose).
The foundation also minimises discolouration and pigmentation, and the dual optimizing powder allows the foundation to react to the available levels of light to leave your skin looking illuminated and vibrant – perfect for winter! I found this foundation to have a medium coverage, and great for every daywear. The long last effect of the foundation was fantastic, leaving everything cleverly covered all day long!
The skincare component of this product makes it a dual action must have for your everyday makeup kit. The foundation contains Hydro-Producing Complex, which in essence is a moisturising ingredient that contains moisturising agents as well as oils for hydrating your skin. The Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE allows the oils in the foundation to bond with water, creating a veil that locks moisture in – resulting in hydration.
In laymen’s terms – when you use this foundation it feels like you are putting your daily moisturiser on as well!
Your skin doesn’t feel caked or dry in any way, and the foundation is so light, you don’t feel like you are wearing foundation at all. The foundation comes in 18 different shades which means you will be able to find the perfect shade for your skin tone, and no more horrible mask lines!
Due to the product's ability to both moisturise and absorb excess oil, it is suitable for practically all skin types. It comes in an easy to use squeeze bottle, as opposed to the open lid bottles that can prove to be quite messy. The only criticism if any that I had of using this product, was that it is a semi-matte finish. This means that if for winter you would like a dewy look, it will not automatically give you this.
This problem is easily solved however, by simply using a highlighter on your cheek and brow bones as well as the bridge of your nose, or alternatively mixing a small amount of liquid illuminator to the foundation before use.
Overall a fabulous multi-functional product that would suit any woman, in particular a woman who is on the go, and is looking for a multifaceted product that could save them time without costing them their look.
The Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation is available now from participating pharmacies, as well as Myer and David Jones stores. Stocks may vary. RRP $70.
