I went with it - a review of
Just Go With It
Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston
(M)

Thousands won’t, but I did (like it that is).
I’ll preface the rest of the review by saying I count Weekend at Bernies, the Scream franchise and Cruel Intentions amongst my all time faves – but I have to say, while this wasn’t a huge departure for Sandler, or indeed Aniston as the witty, wry assistant, it was a more finely honed and relatable version of his usual characters.
There was something in the storytelling that turned his usually unlikely premise into an out of control snowball situation that was funny and outlandish, but believable in an ‘I can see how it happened’ kind of way.
The movie begins with Sandler, a successful plastic surgeon called Danny, hooking up with a much younger teacher and unlike all the other similarly beautiful and amply endowed women that he has convinced to spend an evening with him, he falls in love with her. When it seems she has caught him cheating and wants nothing more to do with him, he enlists the help of his friend and assistant Katherine (played by Aniston) to play the role of his soon to be ex wife.

The situation (though not the movie), rolls rapidly downhill from here, ending with a family holiday where the movie reaches its sadly predictable ending. Having said that, it would have been hard to sway the audience around to it ending any other way, and the hilarious ride makes the soppy ending worthwhile. The support cast was a big part of this movies success, particularly Nick Swardson as Eddie, the strictly slap-stick side kick that stole many a scene from the leads.
At the end of the day they've delivered an easy going romantic comedy that doesn't disappoint, unless you go into it expecting thought-provoking drama. ![]()
