Movie Review: Rio

RIO

Rio 3D The Movie

Accompanying my eight year old to the cinema is a great excuse for quality time together anyway, but if the offering is as entertaining as Rio, well then, that's a double whammy!  Rio delivers on all counts: Witty, smart, intelligent characterisation and lavishly colourful, it is a true feast for the senses.

As we slid down in our seats, donned our 3D specs and dipped into the popcorn, I was definitely not prepared for the ride I was about to take.

The story of happily domesticated blue McCaw ~ Blu ~ who's comfortable routine is shattered when he is identified as the last male of his kind, and is taken to Brazil to pair with the feisty and determined 'Jewel' ~ female of the species.

From there the mayhem and escapades of the two have you in their thrall.  The storyline is an adventure with heart, that all of us can identify with, but it is the visual splendour and stunning soundtrack that make this film unforgettable.

With Rio as the backdrop, we are privy to soaring birds eye views of the city favelas ~ hang gliding down Corcovado mountain entering the world of vibrant Copacabana beach and the Rio Carnaval.  Spellbinding stuff.

Jesse Eisenberg voices Blu and Anne Hathaway is Jewel ~ both are perfect in their characters.  George Lopez, Will i am and Jamie Foxx take the parts of the three hilarious birds who are invested in helping Blu find his true self, they re ~confirm that the humour is there to entertain  adults and children alike, with plenty laugh out loud moments.

Right from the get go, when 'Rio' explodes in a riot of colour and Samba beats ~ the exotic birds of the Amazon dancing in the jungles of Brazil, to the finale, where we are part of the dazzling craziness that is the Rio Carnaval  ~ This movie is an outstanding , beautiful and exuberant experience which will make you feel more than just good ~ it'll have you looking up flights to Brazil!! fm tag square 72dpi - Copy.jpg
