Renewal

In the fresher months, build on the foundations you already have to renew yourself and all that surrounds you.

RENEW RELATIONSHIPS

Partner

Ensure you have time with your partner by allocating one night of the week to ‘date night’ – a night where the two of you act like you’re in your original courtship. Go out for dinner or a movie, send the kids to a friend’s house so you have the home to yourself, or take each other out dancing.

Family

As with date night, dedicate one night of the week or fortnight to your family. It’s a night where you (kids included) stay at home and everyone stays in the same room. Best done when organised in advance, family nights can be spent playing board games, watching a movie together, or indulging in your favourite pastimes.

Friends

Rekindle old friendships by embarking on activities you used to do together. It could be as simple as meeting a friend for coffee, or joining a netball team with an old acquaintance.

RENEW YOU

Take Time

Make time for yourself. Schedule an hour a day to do what it is you want to do; be it meditation, running, or reading a book. Taking time out can renew your energy and give you a fresh outlook on tasks at hand.

Delegate

Just as important as taking time for yourself, is taking pressure off yourself. Successful delegating ensures tasks get done with minimal stress to yourself, and can be implemented at home, work or play (make somebody else do the dishes, run an errand, pick up the team uniforms, respectively). Provided delegation is shared and reciprocated, it can make life much easier.

RENEW HEALTH

Eat fresh

Think like a cave woman and eat unprocessed foods to help detox your body. A good rule of thumb to work by is, if it wasn’t around when the men lived in caves, don’t put it in your mouth. Don’t be fooled into thinking this will compromise taste. Unprocessed foods lead the way for seasonal eating, where you eat fresh – and therefore, more flavoursome – fruit and vegetables.

Don’t think

Indulge in incidental exercise in your life, to help you feel fresh and renewed without really thinking about it. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park the car (or walk) to your destination, carry your shopping instead of using a trolley.

RENEW LOOK

Makeup Free Days

Your skin needs time to breathe, especially your delicate facial skin. Try and spend any day you can without makeup on. Not only will it assist in cell renewal, you’ll feel cleaner, too. And remember, never go to bed without taking off your makeup – it can cause bacteria build-up on your face and on your pillow, which in turn causes blemishes.

RENEW HOME

Fresh paint

Painting a piece of furniture in your home can make a huge difference to the look of a room. Choose a small piece to start off with, and remember lighter colours can open your space. For example painting a brown bedside table cream, can transform the ambience of a bedroom.

Bloom

Fresh flowers, bought or cut from your garden and displayed in charming vases can add fresh life to your surroundings. Rotate the type, colour and display area of your flowers to create different moods and scents throughout the home.

Allocating time for oneself every single day (say an hour) and using that time effectively is so important! I try and make an hour a day where I do totally self indulgent things - I look forward to this time and use it. Then get back to the more mundane parts of the day :)
